This sketch and oil painting piece of the African Elephant was inspired by the recent and harrowing documentary called ‘The Elephant Whisperers’. Although a different family is depicted through the documentary, Darcey went back to her archive images of the big tuskers she saw in Africa, and began to paint and draw them, as well as other species of plant and insects that supports the African ecosystem.  The painting illustrates how elephants are ecosystem engineers, and through them going about their daily life, many other animals are supported by them, and would not survive without them.
